An artificial intelligence–based experiment aimed at increasing sugarcane productivity has been launched at Ranjangaon by Natural Sugar and Allied Industries Ltd, Dharashiv district.

The sugar factory, which has a crushing capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day, has for the past 25 years been implementing various innovative initiatives to enhance sugarcane production and set new benchmarks in the sector.

Over the past 3-4 months, the AI-based system has been implemented in Ranjangaon in Dharashiv district of Marathwada through a joint collaboration between KVK Baramati, the Vasantdada Sugar Institute, and West Indian Sugar Mills Association (WISMA). A total of 753 farmers are participating in the project, making Natural Sugar the first in Maharashtra to register this number of farmers under such an initiative.

Through KVK Baramati, the installation of 20 weather stations and 500 sensors under the project is nearing completion. Farmers’ participation in the initiative has been described as significant.
