Lowest minimum (night) temperatures over plains of the country dropped well below 10°C to 7.5°C at Adhampur Air Force base for 24 hours ending on Monday morning even as moderate fog enveloped parts of Himachal Pradesh in clear signs that the 2025 winter season may have announced its arrival.
The highest maximum temperature of 35.6°C was reported at Erode in Tamil Nadu. Shallow fog conditions were reported in the east across Assam and Meghalaya; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura; Bihar; East Uttar Pradesh; Himachal Pradesh; and West Madhya Pradesh, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The winter-setting anticyclone with a footprint extending from the Middle East looked to having settled over North-West India across international border across Rajasthan and Gujarat. Higher pressure associated with anticyclone forces prevailing cold air to sink down to ground, bringing down ambient temperature levels.
