Amid reported panic sales of fertilisers ahead of the kharif sowing season, which will start with the arrival of monsoon rain, the Indian government on Wednesday said that it would ensure there is no shortage of seeds, fertilisers and agro chemicals.

Briefing the media on the daily inter-ministerial update, Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, additional secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, said that priority allocation of LPG/PNG has been ensured for seed drying for maize through uninterrupted fuel supply, and there will not be any problem regarding availability of hybrid maize seeds.

Sharing an update on the likely impact of developments in West Asia on the agriculture sector, she said there is comfortable seed availability for Kharif 2026, with requirement of 166.46 lakh quintals against availability of 185.74 lakh quintals, resulting in a surplus of around 19.29 lakh quintals.
