The India Meteorological Department announced on Tuesday that while April daytime temperatures will be normal or below normal across much of the country, parts of east, northeast, and northwest India, along with the southern peninsula, should expect above-normal heat.

Releasing the weather forecast for three months of the summer season (April-June), IMD’s Director-General M Mohapatra said: “Maximum temperatures are likely to be normal to below normal over many parts of the country except most parts of east and northeast India, as well as eastern parts of central India and adjoining peninsular regions, where above-normal maximum temperatures are expected.

“Also, above-normal minimum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except some regions of Maharashtra and Telangana where normal to below normal minimum temperatures are likely to be observed,” he said, and added that IMD would issue its first monsoon forecast for 2026 after two weeks.
