The South-West Monsoon, a key weather event for India that makes up over 75 per cent of the annual rainfall, has set in over Kerala this morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
It said over the past two days, convective cloudiness increased over the South-East Arabian Sea, a feature of the setting in of the monsoon over Kerala. In addition, the depth of westerlies over the South-East Arabian Sea extended up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. The strength of the Westerlies in the lower levels was about 20-25 knots.
“There was widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala during the past 2 days. Considering all the above satisfied conditions, the Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala today, June 4, 2026,” said the IMD.
