Surging cardamom prices have brought cheers to stakeholders in the sector, supported by strong upcountry demand and rising export enquiries.

The average price realisation in the auctions has touched a record high of ₹3,200 per kg, with daily arrivals on the auction platform reaching around 100 tonnes, supported by a good harvest.

P.C. Punnoose, General Manager of KCPMC, the auctioneers, said farmers are currently witnessing a good harvest despite lower production at the beginning of the season. The initial setback was attributed to a shortage of rainfall, particularly in the Idukki region, which recorded more than 40 per cent rainfall deficiency during June and July.
